It’s about The Dude
Last night I got up to retro night at the cinema and watched the 8:10pm screening of The Big Lebowski (1998) with a full house of locals. The Dude, perfectly played by Jeff Bridges, is unemployed and unmotivated to work, yet several times during the movie, I found myself thinking that The Dude was almost a role model for how I should be: stay half-drunk most of the time, smoke jays morning, afternoon and evening, wear a dressing gown wherever I went, and take a bath to relax including lighting a dozen candles for ambience.
In short, to dedicate my life to the pursuit of perpetual relaxation, taking on nothing overly stressful whatsoever, not stressing about the rent, getting out of bed whenever I felt like it, never going anywhere in a hurry, and enjoying the warm California climate, to a soundtrack of absolutely great, laid-back rock music.
Okay, so The Dude hates the Eagles, and gets thrown out of a taxi for it, but those huge California rockers still get some music into the action. Then there’s Credence Clearwater Revival whom The Dude is a large fan of as evidenced by him having a tape player with Credence tapes in his car.
